The two fundamentals in respect of capital investment are OBJECTIVE and RISK.

Your OBJECTIVE may be quite straightforward. For example, you may simply seek capital growth in excess of that available from a building society or you may want to maximise income using a mix of assets. On the other hand your aims and aspirations may be far more complex; if for instance you are planning for retirement, or if there are many factors in your life that need to be taken into account.

It could be that you are not completely clear what, given your personal circumstances, your objective ought to be or the route to go - and would simply welcome the opportunity to speak with a professional who can bring together the various strands, and suggest an appropriate and relevant way forward.

RISK is far more emotive. Given a particular product, and asked the question "on a scale of one to ten, where does this product lie?" the answers will probably range from one to ten! The perception of 'risk' in financial products is as diverse as the number of products themselves, but it is vital that as a client you understand what risk actually means, and given your objective, the level of risk that you need to take in order to achieve it. Whilst it is impossible here to expand on this in any meaningful way, a simple example given these times of relatively low returns, is that the higher the level of income needed from invested assests, generally the higher the level of risk required to achieve it. This is not rocket science, and has far more to do with expectation, but our approach is designed to instil a level of understanding that will put that expectation into perspective.

Our first meeting is nearly always free of charge. At the end of it, we will have agreed with you an OBJECTIVE and RISK in writing, both of which will be the basis for any investments we might arrange on your behalf, and be applied to any appraisal we might make of existing funds. We will ask you regularly whether your OBJECTIVE and RISK remain relevant, and will send you an annual 'Benchmark' report to ensure that things remain on track (we have an information sheet on Benchmarking which you can request using the on-line form).

CHESSMAN & Partners advise on invested capital with a value in excess of £100 million. Portfolios range from £10,000 upwards, and are invested for income, growth, or a combination of both. Our dedicated INVESTMENT TEAM will offer advice only after an in-depth meeting, covering your personal circumstances together with your current and future financial needs. At the end of that discussion, both a relevant RISK PROFILE and an OBJECTIVE will have been agreed in writing, and will form the basis of the professional letter or report that we will then prepare. You will also have a very clear understanding of the way in which we work, how we will monitor your investments so that they match your risk profile and objective, and the costs involved.

As we rely on our expertise and the outstanding after-sales service that you will receive, we have every confidence that you will come back and see us again - so much so, that we normally DO NOT charge for the report, or for the initial and follow-up meetings. We are paid a commission by the company with whom you invest, but this is normally DISCOUNTED by us to enhance the investment - it is often the case that more is invested than you actually pay. Alternatively you can opt for a fee basis of remuneration if you prefer.

Thereafter you receive a regular valuation report free of charge (and have the option of paying a fee to receive them more frequently), an annual review and other relevant communications, as well as having access at all times to our qualified and experienced staff.

Please contact us. You will be pleased at the difference, and pleasantly surprised at the cost.
